Little Go statistics update
It’s been over 3 years since I published the previous update of Little Go’s App Store statistics. In the meantime two feature releases 1.7.0 and 2.0.0 have been published, both followed by their respective bugfix release 1.7.1 and 2.0.1 after only a few days.
As usual I did not promote the app in any way, so let’s see what changed since 2021.
Updates
Here is a table that shows the number of updates both in total and within 10 days since a release, for the most recent 3 versions. For a bit of context I also added the numbers per device. Apple Watch and Apple TV do not appear because the app is not available on these platforms.
Version | Release date | Date range | Total | iPhone | iPad | Desktop | iPod Touch | Apple Vision |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2.0.1 | 12 May 2024 | Lifetime | 494k | 175k | 319k | 301 | 106 | 11 |
10 days | 228k | 97.4k | 131k | 232 | 77 | 2 | ||
1.7.1 | 23 Sep 2022 | Lifetime | 468k | 169k | 298k | 133 | 429 | - |
10 days | 179k | 79.9k | 99.3k | 103 | 163 | - | ||
1.6.0 | 27 Feb 2021 | Lifetime | 390k | 163k | 227k | 20 | 416 | - |
10 days | 161k | 76.8k | 84.3k | 14 | 223 | - |
As usual a large chunk of updates happen within the first 10 days of a release, but over the whole lifetime of a version a lot more updates are trickling in.
Another thing that can be seen is that the user base is still growing substantially. Of course the statistics do not say anything about the number of people actively using the app (and the app is not tracking anything like that by design!), but it should at least show how many actively used devices have the app installed.
In version 2.0.1 some devices are no longer supported. In the next statistics it will be interesting to see whether the loss of these devices will have a noticeable influence on growth.
New installations
In the previous statistics post I gave some numbers about how many new installations there were since the release of the most recent version. In retrospective, I think those numbers are not very interesting, so this time let me instead just give the total number of new installations over the entire lifetime of the project: 617'000.
Again, I can’t say how many app installations there are right now, let alone how many of those are active, but again it’s nice to see how many people have interacted - however shortly - with the project over its lifetime.
Updates by country
The top 10 countries with the most updates since the release of version 2.0.1 on 12 May 2024 (almost 4 months):
- United States = 156k
- Germany = 71.1k
- France = 44.5k
- Russia = 25.2k
- Switzerland = 17.6k
- Netherlands = 15.2k
- Sweden = 13.5k
- Spain = 13.1k
- Thailand = 12.9k
- Unit Kingdom = 10.6k
Almost nothing has changed in comparison with the top 10 countries list from the previous statistics post. The only difference is that the UK instead of Turkey is now in 10th place, with Turkey following closely in place 11 with 9.62k updates.
And here are some Asian countries’ statistics. Measured in absolute numbers, Korea and Japan are now in the 4-digit zone, and following the overall growth trend the numbers have also slightly increased in the other countries. Relatively speaking, though, not much has changed since three years ago: The demand for the app is still very low in these countries.
- 29th place: Korea = 1.76k
- 32th place: Japan = 1.23k
- 41st place: Hong Kong = 795
- 43rd place: Vietnam = 783
- 44th place: Singapore = 739
- 47th place: Taiwan = 634
- 52nd place: China mainland = 413
Ratings
Over its entire lifetime the app has received 336 App Store ratings that average to 3.7 out of 5 stars.
In comparison, three years ago there were 232 ratings with an average of 3.9. So while the number of ratings has increased, the average has slightly gone down. The distribution shows that the polarization reported three years ago continues to hold, with the number of 1-star ratings unfortunately increasing more than the others. With the introduction of the new user manual in version 2.0.1 I hope that the downwards trend can be halted.
- 5-star: 183 (+38%, up from 133)
- 4-star: 38 (+31%, up from 29)
- 3-star: 30 (+57%, up from 19)
- 2-star: 16 (+14%, up from 14)
- 1-star: 69 (+86%, up from 37)
Crash reports
In the last 90 days Google’s Firebase Crashlytics has received reports from 71 users for 19 distinct crash types in version 2.0.1. In total there were 259 crash reports.
Xcode shows 17 distinct crash types that were reported via Apple for 2.0.1. As in the previous statistics post, the actual number of crash reports is not available, although I assume there are overlaps between the Crashlytics and Apple reports.
